Laytown Bettystown Golf Course
Bettystown, County Meath

Laytown & Bettystown is laid out on natural links land occupying a 2 mile stretch of Irish Sea coast from Laytown, past Bettystown and on to the fishing village of Mornington. It is a fine example of a traditional links course, playing more or less equally either north or south through the low dunes and on the springy turf that makes links golf so special.
Laytown Bettystown Course Description
Established in 1909, the course has evolved over the years while maintaining its classic links characteristics, shaped by the natural dunes and the ever-changing coastal winds of the Irish Sea. Playing to a par 71 and measuring approximately 6,400 yards from the back tees, the course features firm, fast-running fairways, deep pot bunkers, and subtly contoured greens that demand precision and touch. The natural links terrain, combined with the exposure to the elements, ensures that no two rounds ever play the same.
The opening holes provide a strong introduction to links golf, with tight fairways and undulating greens requiring careful shot placement. As the course progresses, the challenge increases, particularly on the closing stretch, where the wind can be a significant factor. The par-4 16th is a standout hole, playing along the coastline with stunning views of the Irish Sea, while the par-3 17th requires a well-struck shot to a tricky green nestled among the dunes.
Known for its warm welcome and relaxed atmosphere, Laytown & Bettystown offers a pure and unspoiled links experience, free from excessive modern alterations. While it may not have the international profile of Ireland’s premier links courses, it remains a hidden gem that delivers an authentic and enjoyable test of golf.
