Powerscourt East Golf Course

Enniskerry, County Wicklow

Powerscourt East Golf Course

The first of two courses on the famous Powerscourt Estate high in the Dublin mountains near Enniskerry. Peter McEvoy worked with the existing terrrain and changed very little except to add a few water features. The setting is naturally pleasing being in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains and being laid over a mature and historic estate.. At over 7,000 yards this can be a serious golf test and the contouring of the greens is exceptional.

Powerscourt East Course Description

The East Course at Powerscourt Golf Club, located in County Wicklow, Ireland, is a championship parkland course known for its stunning scenery and challenging design. Designed by Peter McEvoy and opened in 1996, the course blends seamlessly with the natural landscape of the historic Powerscourt Estate, offering panoramic views of the Sugar Loaf Mountain and the surrounding countryside.

Playing to a par 72 and stretching to 7,104 yards from the back tees, the East Course is a true test of golf, requiring strategic play and precise shot-making. The layout features tree-lined fairways, well-placed bunkers, and several water hazards that come into play on key holes. The greens are large and undulating, demanding accuracy on approach shots and a steady putting stroke.

The front nine provides a gentle introduction, with a mix of shorter par 4s and scenic par 3s, while the back nine presents a tougher challenge with longer holes and well-protected greens. One of the standout holes is the par-5 12th, which requires careful navigation of fairway bunkers and a precise approach to avoid the water guarding the green. The closing stretch, particularly the par-4 18th, offers a dramatic finish, with a challenging tee shot leading to a well-bunkered green.

Renowned for its pristine course conditions and beautiful setting, the East Course at Powerscourt has hosted several prestigious tournaments and remains a favorite among golfers looking for a high-quality parkland experience. With its combination of playability, strategy, and breathtaking scenery, it continues to be one of the best parkland courses in Ireland.
