Bundoran is a straightforward, holiday links golf course overlooking Donegal Bay. Its clifftop location exposes it to the wind, perhaps a reason for the sparsely bunkered, open fairways that may look unappealing but the well sited, interesting and high quality greens more than compensate.
Lough Erne championship golf course by Nick Faldo. It is the centrepiece of luxury resort near Enniskillen town, sandwiched between Upper Lough Erne and smaller Lake Castle Hume. Mature trees, strategic bunkering, the two lakes and undulating, fast greens provide the golfing interest in a serene setting with gorgeous views.
Old Tom Morris designed the original layout at Portsalon while working on nearby Rosapenna. Laid out beside one of the best beaches in the world, this is another authentic links in the classic mould. Portsalon, like Rosapenna Old, has been updated by Pat Ruddy and remains a classic test of links golf.
Slieve Russell is a first rate golf challenge built on the drumlin and lake speckled countryside of County Cavan. Several streams, Lough Rud, and strategically placed bunkers augment the stately old trees that line most of the holes. Slieve Russell earns consistent praise for the attention to detail and general condition of the course.
Strandhill is a links course that has been constantly improved by its members over the years and has slowly risen to near premier status. In confined space the course is just under 6,200 yards but offers a variety of memorable holes, some classic and some quite quirky. Playing between two beahes and overlooked by Knocknarea, Strandill's location is second to none and is well worth considering.
